Article by Ken Cunningham

In every endeavor that involves money, we should always do a thorough job of research. You simply cannot over research a project. The deeper you look and the more you know, the better off you will be. While this may seem like an overly cautious approach to making money, it is worth it in the end. You will avoid more traps and possibly see more ways to turn a profit if you know everything there is to know about a potential money making project. Make a list of questions to ask of any given moneymaking opportunity. Can I do this? What will it cost? Are there any indications that it is a rip-off? These questions might surprise you as you do your research.

Expose the Hidden Dangers

If you found a new swimming hole that had a great rock to dive from, would you jump right in or would you test the waters depth, and ensure that the bottom was clear of debris or big rocks. Of course, you would check before diving in. Common sense would dictate that it is unsafe until it is checked out. The same kind of thinking applies towards moneymaking opportunities that present themselves as full proof. There is no such thing as a completely safe investment or a sure thing.

The Trick Is To Do the Research

Create your own commodity mutual funds list to track your investments. By making a list, you can stay organized and track each investment so that you do not miss an opportunity to sell when you believe the time is right. Many folks watch the stock market and follow the commodities that are listed in the exchange website. While this is a gamble, it will sometimes pay-off. There is, however, no substitute for doing the research for your self. To rely on someone else’s researched list of hot commodities is to roll the dice. Always try to research each item on your list and track its progress. You may see a trend that few others have noticed. When it comes to commodity mutual funds list, you can rank your hottest movers first and the slower, less productive stocks on the bottom to ensure steady movement.

Don’t Get Stuffed

Free work from home jobs are abundant on the Internet. Again, it cannot be stressed often enough how important it is that you do the research. Many people were sucked into the envelope stuffing scams simply because they did not research deep enough to find the review sites that exposed many of these frauds Believe me, they know how to cover their tracks. With careful manipulation, these swindles have been around for half a century, if not more. When you think about it, envelope stuffing has been automated for many years. Otherwise, the post office would be hiring “Envelope Stuffers” all the time. Compile a list of the free, work from home jobs that you have researched thoroughly and found to be legitimate and separate that from the rest. It will be a short list.

Caution Is Never a Bad Thing

Cheap unfinished furniture is another venture that you might want to look into when searching for ways to enhance your bottom line. It is an easy market with minimum work involved. It is also appealing because of the low capital involved in start-up. The trick is to do the research. Visit the furniture stores and ask the sales staff what items are moving. Look at the items and see what styles are in stock. If it is coffee and end tables that are in demand, look at several and ask yourself what you can do when finishing a piece to make it unique or different. Chances are, you can turn that cheap, unfinished furniture into a beautiful, finished product and double your money in profit.

Article by Philippe Deray

As annuities are so often misunderstood as an investment vehicle, I felt compelled to give people, who may otherwise miss out on a great investment option, a better understanding of this product.

What are annuities?

Simply put, Annuities are investment products that have an insurance component and are backed by the financial strength of an insurance company. As soon as the word insurance is mentioned, though, many people who are looking to invest money clam up. After all, they want an investment not more insurance. What some fail to grasp though, is that, ultimately, what matters, is that the money you invest with a company has the potential to yield the best possible results for the risk taken. Annuities can do just that.

In other words, if an annuity company is willing to offer you a rate of 5% (net, after all costs) guaranteed for five years and your bank or mutual fund company offers you 4.5% (net), which will you choose? Believe it or not, many will choose the plan with 4.5% interest simply because it does not have the word insurance mentioned in it’s plan structure. Seems crazy, no? We think so too! And in times of turbulent stock markets and low bank CD rates, annuities can be a great investment alternative. Annuities offer a measure of protection against market downturns, may provide a guaranteed investment return, and grow tax-sheltered until you withdraw the money.

The Lock in Period

One important aspect of annuities is the lock in period. That simply is the time period that you agree to keep your annuity plan with the same company. You can withdraw out of this annuity before the end of the guarantee period, but you may incur a stiff penalty (which varies from plan to plan). In other words, if you select a five year annuity and decide to cancel the plan after two years, you may have to pay a 3% penalty (varies). That penalty can apply to the original amount invested or the original amount invested plus the interest earned during that period. The lock in period or surrender charge period should be well detailed in your annuity policy. Although, 10 year and longer polices are popular with agents and brokers, we do not recommend that you lock in your policy for longer than five years. Some annuity plans do offer a 5% to 10% free withdrawal option during the lock in period.

Types of Annuities and their functions

*

The basic fixed annuity – This type of annuity is often called Interest Only Annuity or CD Annuity. With these annuities, the insurance company guarantees a minimum rate of return for designated period of time. The most common guarantee periods are four to ten years, but we have also seen, one, two and three year guarantees. These are often used as alternative to bank CDs. *

The Bonus Annuity – The bonus annuity simply offers a bonus at the time of application and sometimes with any subsequent deposits. So if you invest 0,000 into a 10% bonus annuity, your annuity value will now be 0,000. The higher the bonus the longer the lock-in period. For example, a 10% bonus annuity often has a 10 to 12 year lock-in period. Bonus annuities are often popular with people who have lost money with other investment and try to make up for the loss. *

The Indexed Annuity – This type of annuity is fairly new and has been a wonderful addition to the annuity portfolio. Indexed annuities can be a bit complex and selecting one can be confusing. For the sake of simplicity, we cannot cover all options in this article but, simply put, an indexed annuity is a fixed annuity which credits interest based upon the performance of index (as opposed to a fixed interest). For example, an indexed annuity that offers a 60% participation in the S&P 500 index, may credit 60 percentage of the gains in that index for the year. If the gain for the index at the end of the year is 15%, then you may be credited an interest of 9% (60% of the index gain). An important aspect of indexed annuities is that, as long as you keep for the full period you selected, you usually cannot loose your principal and gains. For example, if the index for any period is minus 10%, the interest credited to your account is simply zero (not -6%). *

The Income Annuity – This particular annuity is very popular with retirees – age 65+. As its name indicates, the main purpose of this annuity is to provide you with an income. As with indexed annuities, these annuities offer many options. The most popular option, though, is the life income option. With that option, if you deposit money with an insurance company, the insurance company will, in turn, guarantee a certain income for life. Payouts on income annuities can vary greatly and it is very important to shop many plans and options before sending your hard earned money to an insurance company. With some annuities, once you accept the policy, your money may be locked in with the same company for life. Make sure it is a solid insurance company! *

The variable Annuity – This type of annuity may have been what spurned the creation of indexed annuities. Simply, a variable annuity is a fixed annuity with a variable investment option built in. Variable investments can be mutual funds, bonds…. Variable Annuities are the most complex of all annuities and we recommend that you ask a lot of questions and speak to several agents before making a final decision. Although you can cancel the plan at any time, penalties can be the largest of all annuities mentioned. It may be possible to loose substantial amounts of money with variable annuities.

Annuity Riders

The most common riders are the Death Benefit Rider which guarantees a certain pay out amount at the death of the annuitant and Living Benefit Rider which adds guarantees to the cash value of the policy.

Cancellation period

All annuity plans offer a cancellation period. That is the amount of time you have available to cancel the annuity without any early withdrawal penalties. Please beware that, if your annuity is in a tax qualified retirement account (IRA, 401K rollover…) you may need to roll over the money from the annuity to another tax qualified account to avoid tax penalties.

We hope this basic explanation about annuities and how they work will be helpful in your search for the annuity that is right for you and your goals. As with any financial decisions, please ask many questions before making a final decision. You should also a full proposal and don’t spend too much time on fliers and pamphlets. Proposals should have all the information you need. Please, do not hesitate to ask us as many questions as you need to. Our response will be unbiased and quick. We wish you long life, health and wealth.

Article by KW Allen

Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) are one of the fastest-growing and most powerful investment tools, since their debute in the US Market in 1993. ETFs play an important role in the US investment revolution that began in 1924, when the first Mutual Fund was introduced to the investment marketplace. Like Mutual Funds, ETFs are well-diversified baskets of securities, which provide investors with a broader exposure to particular investment styles across particular industries with just a single investment. However, before investing in ETFs, it is very important to understand how they work and what makes them so attractive and different from Mutual Funds (MFs).

Actively Managed Funds

Each mutual fund hires a manager, who not only makes all the choices regarding the stocks within the investment basket, but also takes care of investors’ needs. When you decide to invest your money in the fund, fund’s manager has to create new shares to meet your purchases, and to sell existing shares to meet your redemptions. Most funds charge you one-time fees such as a front-end load (up to 8.5 percent) and a back-end load (up to 6.0 percent) to enter and exit the fund, as well as ongoing 12b-1 operating fees (up to 1.0 percent). Currently, the average annual expense ratio for traditional funds is 1.67 percent.

Passively Managed Funds

One of the main reasons for the popularity and high competitiveness of an ETF in the investment landscape is its lower fees. Unlike traditional funds, ETFs has no front-end and back-end loads. An ETF is a passively managed, low cost alternative to Mutual Funds. There is a predetermined set of rules that are used by the fund’s sponsor to govern the stock selection. An ETF is traded on a stock exchange. The investor only has to pay a trading commission to the brokerage firm through which the transaction is executed. Nowadays, the increased competition among brokers has significantly lower the cost of trading ETF shares. However, each ETF pays a sponsor an average fee of 0.27 percent to run the fund, which slightly reduces the return on investments, but is still much lower than the average annual fees a Mutual Fund faces.

The Negative Aspects of ETFs

The information above is thoroughly in favor of ETFs. ETFs have many advantages and just a few disadvantages over traditional Mutual Funds. The advantages mainly range from low investment cost to increased trading flexibility and investment transparency. However, being a prospective investor, you should not overlook the whole picture. The fact is that no-load Mutual Funds exist and they charge you only 12b-1 operating fees, ranging between 0.2 and 1.0 percent. This means that it is very likely in some cases your transaction costs to be greater with an ETF than with no-load Mutual Funds bought directly from the fund company. Another drawback that can arise is that ETF share prices are subject to supply and demand shifters. This creates a risky trading environment that is nonexistent with Mutual Funds. As a result, when investing in ETFs, share prices can differ slightly from the market value of the fund’s underlying holdings. Exactly like any other shares of stock traded on the stock exchange, the price a buyer pays is usually higher than the price a seller receives.

Article by John Parks

Building an investment portfolio has many benefits. Mainly, you will earn money. You could invest for retirement or invest to build a discretionary portfolio. There are several ways to invest. You can invest in stocks, bonds, commodities, etc. If you’re aren’t interested in spending a lot of time researching and investing, mutual funds may be a good alternative for you.

A mutual fund is when many investors pool their money together and that money is invested into many investments such as stocks, bonds, commodities, etc. Instead of having to buy individual investments and having to do the research, you can get many different investments at once for instant diversification. Diversifying among many different investments is important, and it’s done for you if you invest in mutual funds.

They are easier because you don’t need to learn how to do research, spend hours researching many different investments, and spend the time it takes to buy stocks or other securities at the right time. You should be familiar with investing and understand this type of collective investment, but it’s much easier than learning all you need to know about stocks, bonds, commodities, derivatives, foreign currency, and other investments.

There is a lot less you have to do which ultimately saves time. If you invested in 6 to 10 different stocks, you should spend at least a couple hours each week researching your investments. With funds like this, you don’t have to worry about what individual stocks are doing. If you invest in index mutual funds, you can expect to earn about an average of what the stock market is earning without having to worry about doing time-consuming tasks.

There are two main types of mutual funds, no load and load mutual funds. Both types charge a small fee to allow you to invest in the fund. However, a load mutual fund adds extra fees because they are often considered premium funds that can earn you more.

No one can guarantee you will earn more money. You can take a risk that a load fund will earn you more money after the fees, or you can invest in index no load funds and save more money on fees. It is also cheaper to do this than to work with a professional investment advisor.

In order to build a diversified portfolio, you need to have a sizable amount of money to get started. When you invest in a mutual fund, you can often get started with as little as ,000.

If you want to invest for retirement, you can invest in these stock or bond funds through a 401K or IRA. These will give you retirement tax advantages. With a 401K, you get to invest your money tax-free until retirement. You will pay taxes on all the money that you withdraw after retirement. It works similarly with an IRA, but with a Roth IRA, you can contribute taxed money and don’t have to pay any taxes during retirement, even on the earnings.

There are many Americans who find themselves in overwhelming debts as they don’t have enough resource to pay off their loans. But if you further borrow money to climb out of such stress and are unable to repay the borrowed amount within the specified time, then you’ll hit your EasyFinance. This is however not a smart way to manage your debts. Without any savings or proper income, there will be no room left for you to pay your creditors. Hence, follow certain tips to manage your debts effectively.
3 Tips to repay your loans:
Read on to know how you should manage your easy finance to repay your personal loans faster.
Boost your earning:
You cannot give the excuse that you’re monthly income is not sufficient enough to manage your loan payments. Since you’re liable to repay your loans soon, you have to search for different ways to boost your earning. Look for online earning options where you can make money in your leisure hours. Set aside those dollars to pay down your debts.
Build a budget:
It is one of the essential tips that you must follow while you’re eager to pay off your debts. List your income, your expense and all your debts. Now, craft a frugal budget which you must follow to save the most of your dollars. Quit your extravagant lifestyle and curb your expense so as to boost your savings and repay your loans fast.
Negotiate with your creditors:
If you find that personal finance management is not sufficient enough to reduce your debt burden, you can go for negotiation. Contact your creditors and tell them about your hardships. Convince them that you’re striving hard to repay their dollars and if they give you a better payment plan, then you can pay down your debts faster. Before you do this, you have to be sure of the amount that will be comfortable for you to pay every month.
Thus, follow the above mentioned tips to stay on the right track. It is quite easy to obtain credit, but if you delay with your payments, then you’ll be charged high interest. Hence, to manage you debts effectively, you have to quit your credit cards and get into the habit of using cash while you go for shopping. Use your credit cards only for emergencies.

Making extra money is what everyone dreams about. And in the light of today’s scenario, it is easier to make extra money and that too without investing much. It is not who has big bank balance, but the one who is well informed and who holds the capability to make it big in the different money making arenas. The best platform to begin with is the share market of India. Before you take a plunge in the share market world, ensure that you are armed with all that you would need the most, the major part being information. And it is only with prudence and experience that one can understand how NSE and BSE India, the major cornerstones of share market in India work. Follow the affairs of NSE India and BSE India closely and monitor the updates on a regular basis. This will strengthen your intuitive power and fill you with an understanding that will enable you catch the pace of the speedily fluctuating market trends.

Once you know which sector is going strong and which company is gaining, you would get the clue where your investments should be directed. Catch BSE live on the Internet with a mere click of the mouse. Track the growth record of the company you are planning to invest money in through BSE live and follow the most crucial information like changes in the prices of the shares, and so on. Profit and loss are the part and parcel of the share market, so do not panic even if you happen to lose. Get geared up for the next move even more stringently and study the flow of NSE India and BSE India and try to get the expert advice of the share brokers available online. Share market in India is an unpredictable ground where what twist will take place and what not is unknown. As they say, slow and steady wins the race, it is all about having patience and maintaining a balance between the profits and losses and moving on for the best.

Besides directly investing in the share market of India, you can opt for indirect investment, i.e. on mutual funds investment in India besides the commodity market and so on. BSE live and various other brokerage portals can guide you to gauge the best mutual funds available in the share market of India. Investing in top mutual funds is allowing your money to grow adjacent to the growth of the market. Mutual funds in India have grown to be one of the most preferred financial instruments when it comes to saving and investing, all at the same time. However, before you invest in mutual funds in India, gather all the relevant information about the volatile market situation as blind investments can lead you into big financial troubles. You can instead hire a fund manager to do the investment on your behalf after studying the flow of the market.

Article by Scott G. Harrow

Mutual Funds or Stocks? It is most common question that comes in mind of investors, especially beginners. They don’t have exact idea where to put their money where they can generate best returns. What can the answer of this most commonly asked question in investment circle? Actually there is not correct answer which can be supported by some strong proof because both options have their advantages and disadvantages. Eventually, it comes down to personal circumstances. Here is a guide that explains how to choose between fund and stocks depending upon personal circumstances.

Let’s first understand main difference between stocks and funds. Stocks are shares of particular companies which investors can buy/sell from/too stock market. Actually shares of companies come from other investors only but stock exchange works as medium between investors. Historically, it is reported that stock market have potential of 11% returns a year. Stocks are likely to pay off your money back if you wait for right time and make good investment decision. However, risk and return goes hand-in-hand. Financial market may fall down because of some certain reasons but it is seen that it often grow back at long run. It simple means that stocks are good for those who are thinking about investment for long term.

Trading process of funds is almost similar to stocks funds but how money of investors is invested in funds is different than stocks. fund managers collect money from number of investors and invest that collective money in different stocks, bonds, or/and other assets.

Selection of these assets depends on research and knowledge of fund manager.

So here is a main difference between stocks and funds:

“When you invest in stocks, you become shareholder of specific company and when you invest money in funds you are actually giving money to professional fund manager to invest wherever he thinks that money can grow faster”.

Selection process

Now, you have idea about stocks as well as funds. Still, which one is better for you is not clear. Three factors are most effective on your decision: Risks, Returns, and expenses.

Risks: When it comes to risks, funds have upper hand. If you don’t won’t to see big ups and downs in your investments then go for funds, simply because of diversification. As told earlier, when you invest in funds, your money goes to different assets, not only one or two stocks. It means that other assets can cover for underperformer. This is the reason why funds are considered as much better option for beginners.Returns: Most important and interesting one. It is seen in the past that funds always underperform the market. Expert fund managers don’t have answer to this secret but somehow returns in funds are not as high as funds. When many assets are bought using investors’ money, probability is higher that few of them don’t grow as expected and perform badly. That has significant effects on final outcome. Stocks have potential to offer good returns if investors are ready to take little risk and wait for right time.

Expenses: There is no doubt that stocks win the battle here. In funds, three types of costs are applied: Implicit costs, Explicit costs, and hidden. Even if expenses are minimal for funds, they do exceed expenses related to stocks of same amount.

Conclusion: For those who want safety of their money first, fund investment is ideal choice because it has fewer risks compare to stocks though they has low returns. For aggressive investors, who want to grow their money quickly by investing for long term, stocks are ultimate choice.

Question by : how does mutual funds work?
When is the best time to invest in Mutual fund?

Best answer:

Answer by Laurence W
The best time to invest is when one that almost always goes up has a big dip, because it will come back and likely resume it previous growth pattern.

A mutual fund pools money to buy shares of many stocks they believe have very good growth potential. Then individuals buy shares in the mutual fund, not in individual stocks.

And recent frequency to expose the industry “problems” event, also make the door of the public image of the industry was inflexible. At the same time, also hope to the industry society more understanding and trust, let the healthy development of industry.

industry image make five big difficulty. Save

In recent years, due to the various social work hard together, the industry’s reputation is rising. According to international well-known research company of AC Nielsen online survey, the industry reputation already in 2005 from 66% in 2010 to 78% increase, maintain a kind of benign growth trend of steady rise.

Question by SicilianAmerican: Stocks inside each Mutual Fund, how would one find out before investing? Like Energy/Natural Gas/Oil, etc.?
I’m not wanting to gamble on individual stocks since I don’t follow the market , I’d feel better with mutual funds where people are doing all that for me. But it’s almost impossible to get any information on different funds without being “sold” something. Is there a way I could find out how to find out which energy companies are in individual mutual funds? Like American Funds. That’s a company that has many mutual funds. How do you go about seeing what’s in fund?
I was typing too fast. I meant to ask , how would a person find out which companies were in each mutual fund? Say I wanted to find an energy mutual fund that specialized in oil companies like Exxon, Gulf, and yes even BP.

Answer by smahadevan39
There are various schemes adopted by the mutual funds. you may go through the daily report and find out their NAV ( present value) and select a good one. You can also find out from the financial news papers / magazines. You may also go through the web sites.

Article by Harsha Chaturvedi

In this article we discuss the Indian insurance market and the trends that will help companies in the United States evaluate how they can leverage from this untapped market. The research has been conducted by the VA consulting team working with inputs from several insurance leaders in the Indian market that have worked with early entrants like Met Life, Zurich, ICICI and others.

Background to the Indian economy Ever since the economy was opened up in 20 years ago India has been growing as an economy at nearly double digits.

As the working middle class becomes a sizable number the insurance industry has started growing at an incredible rate. It has grown over 200% since 2006. Even last year that insurance industry has grown by over 45%. Analysts predict the industry is going to grow at least 10% in 2010 to become a Billion industry. Even with this growth rate only 5% of the country is actually covered by any form of insurance.

There are insurance governing bodies have been formed and governing bodies have brought about a number of changes to standardize the insurance sector but more changes are expected especially in the personal and life area.

There are many factors to probe into as an investor or venturing into the Indian market. Our guidance to companies that are interested in entering the Indian market is:

The consumers as well as the investors should be focusing on the insurer’s financial strength and capability to meet ongoing responsibilities to its policyholders. The fundamentals of the insurance company should be strong and should not indicate a poor investment opportunity as this might also deter growth.Key FindingsTaking into account the changing socio-economic demographics, rate of GDP growth, changing consumer behavior and occurrences of natural calamities at regular intervals, the Indian life insurance market is expected to reach the value of around Billion in the year 2010. The market is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 200% YOY from the year 2006.

In 2006-07, pension premium contributed about 22.11% to total premium income of insurers.Interestingly, the figure in the first nine months to December 2005 was 25.22%.In the non-life segment, the established players control 65% of the market. So it is their monthly performance that determines how the market as a whole would perform. In Motor Insurance Business, Public sector covers almost 68% of the market value whereas the private sector just had 32% market share till September 2006.In Accident Insurance Business, private sector players have almost 53% market share with ICICI Lombard as the lead player. Public sector players constitute about 47% market value with New India as the leading player followed by United India.Overview of the market

The insurance business in India much like the US insurance industry is divided into four classes:1) Life Insurance business2) Fire3) Marine 4) Miscellaneous Insurance.

Life Insurers transact life insurance business; the rest is transacted by General Insurers. No composites are permitted as per law at this time. This is being reviewed.

The business of Insurance essentially means defraying risks attached to any activity over time (including life) and sharing the risks between various entities, both persons and organizations. Insurance companies (ICs) are important players in financial markets as they collect and invest large amounts of premium. Insurance products are multipurpose and offer the following benefits:

1. Protection to the investors2. Accumulate savings3. Channelize savings into sectors needing huge long term investments.

ICs receive, without much default, a steady cash stream of premium or contributions to pension plans. Various actuary studies and models enable them to predict, relatively accurately, their expected cash outflows. Liabilities of ICs being long-term or contingent in nature, liquidity is excellent and their investments are also long-term in nature. Since they offer more than the return on savings in the shape of life-cover to the investors, the rate of return guaranteed in their insurance policies is relatively low.

Consequently, the need to seek high rates of returns on their investments is also low. The risk-return tradeoff is heavily tilted in favor of risk. As a combined result of all this, investments of insurance companies have been largely in bonds floated by GOI, PSUs, state governments, local bodies, corporate bodies and mortgages of long term nature. The last place where Insurance companies are expected to be over-active is bourses.

A recent trend of ICs is to venture into the pension and the mutual fund market. Life still constitutes a major share of the insurance business.

Regulators

Insurance is a federal subject in India. The primary legislation that deals with insurance business in India is: Insurance Act, 1938, and Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority Act, 1999. The Insurance Industry has ombudsmen in 12 cities. Each ombudsman is empowered to redress customer grievances in respect of insurance contracts on personal lines where the insured amount is less than ,000, in accordance with the Ombudsmen rule.

Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority (IRDA)IRDA was constituted by an act of parliament. The Authority is a ten member team consisting of: (a) Chairman (b) five whole-time members (c) four part-time members

(1) Subject to the provisions of Section 14 of IRDA Act, 1999 and any other law for the time being in force, the Authority shall have the duty to regulate, promote and ensure orderly growth of the insurance business and re-insurance business. (2) Without prejudice to the generality of the provisions contained in sub-section (1), the powers and functions of the Authority shall include, – (a) issue to the applicant a certificate of registration, renew, modify, withdraw, suspend or cancel such registration; (b) protection of the interests of the policy holders in matters concerning assigning of policy, nomination by policy holders, insurable interest, settlement of insurance claim, surrender value of policy and other terms and conditions of contracts of insurance; (c) specifying requisite qualifications, code of conduct and practical training for intermediary or insurance intermediaries and agents;(d) specifying the code of conduct for surveyors and loss assessors; (e) promoting efficiency in the conduct of insurance business; (f) promoting and regulating professional organizations connected with the insurance and re-insurance business; (g) levying fees and other charges for carrying out the purposes of this Act; (h) calling for information from, undertaking inspection of, conducting enquiries and investigations including audit of the insurers, intermediaries, insurance intermediaries and other organizations connected with the insurance business; (i) control and regulation of the rates, advantages, terms and conditions that may be offered by insurers in respect of general insurance business not so controlled and regulated by the Tariff Advisory Committee under section 64U of the Insurance Act, 1938 (4 of 1938);

(j) Specifying the form and manner in which books of account shall be maintained and statement of accounts shall be rendered by insurers and other insurance intermediaries;

(k) Regulating investment of funds by insurance companies;

(l) Regulating maintenance of margin of solvency;

(m) Adjudication of disputes between insurers and intermediaries or insurance intermediaries;

(n) Supervising the functioning of the Tariff Advisory Committee; (o) specifying the percentage of premium income of the insurer to finance schemes for promoting and regulating professional organizations referred to in clause (f);

(p) Specifying the percentage of life insurance business and general insurance business to be undertaken by the insurer in the rural or social sector; and

(q) Exercising such other powers as may be prescribed

Tariff Advisory Committee (TAC) (Statutory Body under Insurance Act 1938): Tariff Advisory Committee controls and regulates the rates, advantages, terms and conditions that may be offered by insurers in respect of General Insurance Business relating to Fire, Marine (Hull), Motor, Engineering and Workmen Compensation.

Effective 22/07/98, the TAC Board has been reconstituted with seven members representing the present General Insurance Industry and eight members from government and Industry.

The Controller of Insurance cum Chairman IRDA is the Chairman of TAC.

List of major Insurance Companies in India (July 2010)

Insurance industry earlier comprised of only two state insurers.

Life Insurers ie Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and General Insurers ie General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC) GIC had four subsidiary companies.

With effect from December 2000, these subsidiaries have been de-linked from parent company and made as an independent insurance company. These companies are Oriental Insurance Company Limited, New India Assurance Company Limited, National Insurance Company Limited and United India Insurance Company Limited.

The first batch of licenses was issued by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) in 2001. As on December 2009 following are the players in the Indian Market:

The total number of life insurers registered with the authority has gone up to 23. While, the total number of general insurers registered with IRDA are also now 23.

The Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority (IRDA) has issued revised guidelines licensing of corporate agents. IRDA has stipulated that the decision to engage any person as corporate agent will be taken only in the corporate office of the insurance company and proceedings appointing the person as corporate agent will be issued by an officer who will specially be designated by the chief executive officer to issue to such orders. Insurers have been directed to carry out ‘surprise inspections’ of the books and records of the group organizer or manager at least once a year to ensure total compliance.

IRDA has set a new deadline of December 2006 to complete the price deregulation system in the domestic general industry. Currently almost 70% of the general insurance market functions under the tariff system which is fixed by Tariff Advisory Committee (TAC), a constitutional body supervised by IRDA. The intention of such road map is to see that there is an orderly movement from the present regime to the future set up. While IRDA assumes that all lines of business would be de-tariffed, to start with it may be limited to lines other than motor in view of the sizeable share the motor premium commands in the overall premium collected by the insurers and the large number of policyholders involved in this lines of business.

IRDA has clarified, that the function of underwriting and rating of insurance business should be independent of the business development function and not be made subservient to the business development function.

Insurance products

Listed below is the list of popular insurance products in the Indian market

More than 80% of the life insurance business is from Endowment Assurance (Participating), and Money Back (Participating products).

Fire and Miscellaneous insurance businesses are predominant. Motor Vehicle insurance is compulsory.

New products have been launched by life insurers. These include linked-products.

Insurance products from the new insurance companies now give a lot more options to customers. New insurance products are more transparent, flexible & customized to the need of different types of individuals. Companies are providing “Free-look” period of 10 days where customer has the option of returning the policy within 10 days if it does not meet his requirements. Loading of riders to basic range of products & thus providing lots of flexibility to the customers is few of the examples.

Insurance Companies are now providing information about their performance on a regular interval to bring transparency in declaring bonuses.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) has reported that every life insurance company registered under the IRDA (Registration of Indian Insurance Companies) Regulations, 2000, can transact life insurance business which includes ‘linked business’. After clearance from IRDA, the insurance companies must launch the products within three months from the date of clearance.

The number of new products cleared by the IRDA during the financial year 2009-10 in respect of private insurance companies was 236.

Insurance software

The middle and late 90s witnessed the tornado of financial reforms, deregulation, globalization etc., coupled with rapid revolution in communication technologies and evolution of novel concept of ‘convergence’ of computer and communication technologies, like Internet, mobile / cell phones etc. The evolution of IT services outsourcing in the Indian banks has presently moved on to the level of Facilities Management (FM). Banks now looking at business process management (BPM) to increase returns on investment, improve customer relationship management (CRM) and employee productivity. Despite this there is a large gap that needs to be filled in with cutting edge technology.

Conclusion

The Indian insurance industry is growing at a very rapid rate and is a great opportunity of companies to come in and take over significant portions of the market. These players will need to have an appetite for changes of a growing economy and a young market to be able gain from the benefits of these markets.

Article by Munish Gupta

Our society structure is undergoing a rapid transformation. People aged over 65 are outnumbering those aged under 64. In some developed nations the ratio of those aged over 65 to those aged under 64 years is projected to drop to as much as 1:1 which implies there is one younger person for every older person. If you see the trend it would become so difficult for European countries and US to be able to afford and pay benefits to the seniors and the retired people.

While financial freedom is something we all look forward to how many of us really plan a strategy to achieve that financial security or independence after retirement, without depending on benefits from government? Very few may be. Financial planning with a retirement strategy is ideally done through the services offered by a financial planner because he/she has a greater knowledge, experience and efficiency to provide you a safer financial future. With growing financial uncertainties it is all the more crucial to plan a strategy that ensures you a complete financial backup once you retire. The following are the key points that your financial planning should include:

* The financial planner first move towards a successful retirement plan is he/she focuses on savings and low risk investments. * Any retirement plan will most certainly provide enough benefits but what you need to consider is social security; think whether the monetary gains you make after retirement will suffice your lifestyle or not and then plan you retirement accordingly. * Work out a retirement plan with your spouse and with the proper guidance of the financial planner who might advice mutual funds. Mutual funds are good options for a retirement plan, and they also equalize the responsibility between the two of you. It also ensures that if something happens to one of you the other would be in a position to handle the investments. * Start contributing more funds to the retirement plan and review the funds’ performance every quarter; your financial planner will anyway do it while updating your portfolio. * The financial planner will prioritise health and accidental insurance while financial planning for your retirement and that is a right move. * Tax planning is another strategy that will save you a lot of money and you can direct the same towards your retirement plan. Also ask your financial planner to see what part of your pension and annuity is taxable so that you are completely prepared to deal with the taxes efficiently. * Estate planning should also be a part of your retirement plan, as that too can work as a good monetary resource once you retire.

Your retirement could be peaceful and financially secure if you have followed the right retirement strategy.

Question by bpeter3196: Two stupid Question about Mutual funds?
How does a mutual fund calculated how much of their fund to invest in each company or area they plan to invest in? And while I know there are funds that track certain groups or sectors like energy or the S&P or technology & that there’s index funds that invest in a large open area to try to follow the over all market as a whole but do fund that actually own every stock on the market? Just always wondered how they calculated their investment stakes & decide how many companies?

Best answer:

Answer by Don
Every fund has a fund manager with a staff. The funds vary by how many stocks they carry in their portfolio. Some carry more than others. The value is determined by adding up the value of all their stocks. By having a lot of stocks and being very smart in their choices there is a much better chance of winning in the stock market by being in mutual funds than in trying to pick stocks yourself.

Life insurance is just for parents, seriously ill people, and old people, right? Wrong! Life insurance is also for children, even when they are young.

In the case of parents, seniors, and the seriously ill, life insurance is for their beneficiaries. The policy benefit is designed to provide financial protection for loved ones if the policyholder dies. That is the most important advantage of coverage.

In the case of children, however, the advantage is different. Securing coverage when children are young means that as long as the premiums are paid on schedule, the policy remains in effect for the entire life of your child (when the coverage is the “whole life” type). But why not just wait to buy coverage when your child gets older or becomes a young adult? There are two main reasons. First, generally the younger and healthier you are, the more affordable coverage will be. But also, coverage can be difficult to obtain if the person seeking the policy has experienced a serious illness or injury. In a worst-case situation, some young adults find it impossible to secure affordable coverage because of an illness or injury that occurred in their youth. However, if they already have coverage, which you secured for them when they were children, what could have been a worst-case scenario is, instead, not an issue.

There is another potential advantage of buying family life insurance for your children when they are young. Certain types of policies accumulate cash value. Make no mistake: a life insurance policy is not an investment in the same way that stocks and mutual funds are. The purpose of life insurance for the policyholder is protection, not profit. However, it is still reassuring to know that a policy’s cash value can be accessed if your children face a financial emergency.

So how can you find a family life insurance policy that you can afford now and in the years to come as your children grow older? The most efficient and effective way to ensure you find the best value is to do comparison-shopping: Get quotes from as many insurers as possible. But that can be a very time-consuming process. It could mean having to go from company to company, agent to agent, filling out one form after another. But there is a better way: Use a free, unbiased online quoting service.

State-of-the-art software now makes it possible for you to get quotes from many different insurance companies all in one place and all in seconds. It is amazingly easy: Just answer a few questions; they are short and simple. Then click to get your quotes. You will likely see quotes from many different companies competing to offer you coverage at the best possible rates. Choose the policy that fits your needs and budget. In many cases, you can pay immediately using your credit card. It may even be possible to download a copy of your policy that you can print and file right away.

Think of it: It takes just a few minutes to secure life insurance for your children. But the advantages last a lifetime! What are you waiting for? Visit a 100% free service such as FamilyLifeInsurance.biz to get your quotes. You—and your children—will be glad you did!

Article by Jodie Manning

North America is an abundant source of renewable energy options for a couple of reasons. First, the technology to harness renewable resources is abundant and dropping in price so that everyone can take advantage of it. Second, governments are beginning to understand the importance of a long term, reliable energy source for the future. And finally, the number of organizations that are participating in alternative energy research in Calgary and other major cities has been on the rise for more than a decade.

Alternative energy research in Calgary is important to learn from because it has helped produce some of the more modern techniques in renewable energy. The city is home to all types of energy, including solar power, wind energy and geothermal energy. Because of this, many technology companies have made Calgary their home in an effort to be located in a place that represents all of the renewable energy options that they’re researching.

Companies like the Sustainable and Renewable Energy (SURE) industry group have played a major role in alternative energy research in Calgary, helping to develop techniques and technology for harnessing power. This has paved the way for other groups, like Clean Green Nation, to make the technology and information available for people to use. The cycle ends with consumers who adopt these tactics and employ them to harness solar energy on an ever-increasing scale.

But, alternative energy research in Calgary wouldn’t be possible unless the city itself was concerned with renewable energy as much as those who invest in it. And, as it so happens to be, Calgary is one of the most energy conscious cities in North America. Did you know that by the end of 2012, the City of Calgary’s operations will be powered 100% through the use of renewable energy? That’s dedication!

Are you interested in alternative energy research in Calgary? To find out more about the newest developments and technological trends that are emerging, stick with Clean Green Nation. Its part of the company’s mission to keep readers up to date with the best technology and news regarding developments in renewable energy. This includes solar power, wind energy and even more obscure channels, like hydropower and geothermal energy.

Remember, the more interest shown in renewable energy, the better it’s going to be received by governments and organizations who may be funding research and development. Show your support for alternative energy research in Calgary today and help pave the future of energy technology.

When you purchase a solar hot water system, you can acquire financial advantages and rebates. The Australian government provides several rebates for suitable people. Such rebate can help you in losing installation costs. You can be eligible for a rebate as long as you fall in the eligibility criterion. You possibly can choose whether or not to get a rebate. Precise info on a variety of solar hot water rebate can be located on various internet websites. Websites like these provides you with the important information to improve your probable rebates.

But the question for you is why are people looking into sustainable energy? Is it because it is good to the planet, or is it just perfect for something to write about? Well, both. Some people should make a change in addition to help the environment as possible as they could. Others recognize that in addition to social awareness comes an added advantage – less expensive electricity. There are plenty of grants, refunds and incentives open to people that care to study and utilize them.

You will discover different types of solar hot water rebates. The federal government supplies a rebate up to 00 based upon various circumstances. Certain other rebates are offered also in selected cities. These solar hot water rebate are provided by the own state governments. A result of the raising desire for electrical energy, these rebates are available as initiatives just to save power. You can even talk to your local MP regarding the availability of state government solar hot water rebate in your place.

Unique variations of hot water systems are for sale for use today, many of which are electric improved whereas the others usually are gas boosted hot water systems. Solar hot water systems are hugely energy efficient and can lower power consumption by means of almost 80 percent in comparison with an electric heating system. Electrical power certificates are accorded to each model of these systems. These certificates show information about the energy protecting capabilities of these systems.

The ability to use solar or wind power appears to be great theoretically, but a majority people cannot afford to run the technology and machinery that are instructed to gather it. That’s why there are plenty of people in search of more energy saving just like having solar hot water heaters at home. Of course such as anything else, prices of the devices are constantly going up. Given the benefits for the environment, though, together with savings to the electric power industry, situations are created where authorities and specialized systems are offering money to the people who want to invest in natural or renewable systems.

A program in the UK delivers rebates for high efficiency buildings that will work with renewable energy and funds to help achieve the item. It’s definitely value checking into the inducement programs that are available in your area. The Earth and your packet will appreciate the idea!
